Field management consulting
What Is Field Management Consulting?
Field management consulting is based on:
-
Learning in the flow of everyday life. A space-time for reflection to better bounce back into action, while integrating proven strategic approaches, such as SWOT analysis, Porter's five forces and other models used by strategy consulting firms to structure thinking.
-
Kindness and confidentiality. This is not a performance interview, there is no blockage in relation to a hierarchy, allowing everyone to "lower their defenses" and learn. This secure environment encourages an authentic expression of concerns.
-
Demanding and analytical rigor. The consultant tracks down hasty reasoning, poorly constructed arguments, ready-made formulas. His role is to demand rigor and depth in thinking, by adopting an approach based on data and facts.
-
Awareness of perception biases. Through questions formulated by the consultant, the manager is led to identify and overcome his own cognitive biases.
-
Contributions that shed light on the situation. The consultant provides managerial, strategic, tactical, sociological and psychological keys, as well as benchmarks from different industries.
-
Personalized and actionable advice. The consultant offers advice and questions to adapt the manager's behavior and actions, in alignment with the company's strategic objectives.
-
Monitoring and ongoing development. It can be reinforced—if there is an appetite—by guided readings (articles, books) at the end of the interview in order to deepen the reflection, as well as by concrete and measurable action plans.
By integrating these practices, field management consulting offers a holistic and structured approach, allowing managers to develop their skills and optimize their impact within the organization.
Field management consulting: a different practice
Compare to ...
Field management consulting differs from coaching, mentoring and tutoring in several key ways:
Compared to coaching, which primarily aims to help the individual find their own solutions through open-ended questions and active listening, field management consulting offers response frameworks and specific inputs. It is more directive and focused on developing concrete managerial tactics, while requiring analytical rigor in thinking.
Unlike mentoring, which is a long-term relationship where an experienced mentor shares his or her wisdom and experiences to guide the mentee, field management consulting is a structured and one-off intervention. It focuses on specific issues of the manager, without necessarily relying on a long-term relationship.
Compared to tutoring, which is often associated with the acquisition of technical or academic skills with a tutor teaching a learner, field management consulting is oriented towards strategic thinking and solving complex managerial problems. It aims to develop the manager's ability to analyze situations and develop action strategies, rather than transmitting predefined knowledge.
Field management consulting is a personalized approach that combines the analytical requirement of strategic consulting with action-oriented support, thus distinguishing itself from the more exploratory methods of coaching, the relational methods of mentoring, or the educational methods of tutoring.
